Frequently Asked Questions

What are research studies?

Research studies are projects where regular people with or without certain medical issues help test new ways to diagnose, treat, or address health conditions.

These are sometimes called "clinical trials" or "clinical studies." They are completely voluntary & have strict safety checks so no one is treated like a guinea pig.

People can volunteer, and might be asked to do as little as 1 blood test or more advanced treatment plans.

What women's health issues are being studied?

For years, women were not the focus of medical research studies.

Today, studies help you, researchers, & doctors search for things like:

Painless tests for endometriosis, fibroids, UTIs, & PCOS

Breast cancer drugs with fewer side-effects

New ways to navigate menopause

At Skylight Health Research, we ensure women are equally included in other studies too -- like research on weight loss, blood pressure, & more.

Why do people volunteer for studies?

Different women volunteer for different reasons. Here are some of those reasons:

Shape medical care for the next generation of women.

Make sure your voice heard in research.

Receive special medical care for free.

Why me?

Your voice should be heard by researchers & doctors.

Volunteering for a study helps ensure that your unique lifestyle, background, & biology is counted.

We're looking for women from the Burlington area because most medical research is done at in urban areas like Boston & New York -- but researchers need to know if things work well for every woman in every location.

Will I be injected with something?

Most studies never ask you to do that.

Research on new medical tests might only ask to swab your cheek with a Q-tip one time. Others only ask for surveys. A few might ask you to test a new drug as a pill, nasal spray, shot, or something else.

Whether it's taking a short or just completing a survey, you will never be forced to do anything you don't want to do.

Before you sign up, you'll be told exactly what a study is looking for women to do.

Even if you volunteer for a study, you can change your mind later -- no questions asked.
